"EXERCISING IS FUN AND EXHILARATING!"

GETTING FIT FOR LIFE
Welcome to GETTING FIT FOR LIFE. My name is Brenda. Pull up a chair and get comfortable. I will tell you the story that prompted me to create "my little corner of the world". Back as far as I can remember, I had always battled with a weight problem. When I graduated from high school in 1973 (oops, how's that for telling my age...smile), I weighed 180 pounds. Shortly afterwards, I married and had three sons. Talking about a weight gain...phew, what a gain! I found myself at a whopping 300 pounds!
It was time to do something and fast! I decided that I wanted to lose the weight NOW and that was the wrong idea folks. Oh, I did lose 120 pounds of it and did it rather quickly. However, within a couple of years, I had gained all of the weight back and then some. As my personal life took on many new changes, I lost some weight and ALWAYS gained it back! I asked myself..."what am I doing wrong?". I guess you are sitting there and saying to yourself..."that sounds just like me"...right? America is full of folks just like us.
I began to read every fitness and health-related article that I could get my hands on. In 1998, I decided that enough was enough! I was going to do this thing once and for all. I joined a local gym and began to work out three days a week. Boy, was that a tough one! However, after a couple of months, I realized that exercising was fun. It was exhilarating. I was really enjoying this "fitness scene". I stuck with the routine and wanted more. At this point, I had lost 150 pounds.
In January of 2000, it was like the beginning of a new life for me. I had also analyzed myself and found many underlying problems that could have contributed to my constant weight problems. If you do not have a medical reason for your weight problems, then begin to look deep within yourself and ask yourself "what is it that makes you unhappy?". It may take you a long time, not to discover the problem, but to ADMIT to the problem. That was where I had the most trouble...admitting that I was unhappy and the reasons why. Hey, we are human and we all make mistakes in our lives. Besides the mistakes, I was a pushover. I would do anything to help someone else, just because I wanted so desperately to be loved by everyone...sound like you, too? If it does, the solution is very simple...just learn to say "no". A very simple word, yet so hard to say to someone. You must learn that your body, mind, and spirit is the most important thing you have and you must take care of them. Or they will fail you. When I realized these things about myself, I knew that big changes had to be made and I started to take control of my own life for the first time in my life! I turned my back to the unhappiness and started a new life.
My intent of this website is very simple...to get you to look at your own life and start making changes for the better. I will give you some of the persons, places, and things that have helped me along the way. I hope that you will find some small part of this helpful to you. If you have any questions or just need some inspiration, please feel free to contact me through my email address. I will help where I can as a friend or through my research and contacts, may be able to direct you to another source of information. Just remember...you are human and no one, but God above is perfect. The only thing we can do is to strive to be the best that we can be!
